Article: IPOD: THE LEADER OF THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION

This post is about the article from this website http://fie.engrng.pitt.edu/eng12/Author/final/7095.doc
Is an article about research done by Sossena Wood and Emily Ross regarding iPod.

It talks about technology of music before mp3 exist, history of mp3 and also how iPod is created.

How iPod works?
Unlike any other mp3 outside, iPod uses hard drive memory instead of flash memory to store its files with Toshiba providing those well processed hard drives. By doing so, iPod have advantage in memory size compare to those mp3 that use flash memory, but of cause iPod is a little bigger in product size.
To give users a unique way to view the music library, Apple invented a unique control pad.The click wheel is a touch sensitive circle, similar to a laptop’s touchpad, on an iPod.The user can either slide his or her finger around the circle to scroll through menu options, or click on one of the four mechanical buttons, menu, back, forward, play/pause.

Technology Comparison between Creative Zen and iPod

Creative is another popular mp3 besides iPod. Creative is highly marketed in Singapore where the headquarters located. Basically Creative's products can divide into two family, which is NOMAD and NOMAD jukebox. NOMAD uses flash memory as their data storing device because it resistance to shock and vibrate. NOMAD jukebox uses hard disk, hard disk technology is a device which records data through a magnetic system of rotating platters. Although it is highly used, but it wasn't suitable to be use in mp3 because hard disk are sensitive against shock and vibration, constant vibration for carrying mp3 around will spoil it

" Surprisingly, Creative has collaborated with one of its rival companies, Apple, due to the outcome of a lawsuit. As a settlement of Creative suing Apple, Creative agreed to work on accessories that are “Made for iPod.” Apple settled this dispute with a $100 million, about ‘1.1% of Apple’s total cash holdings” paid to Creative]. As a result of this dispute, Creative no longer looks at Apple’s iPods as a source of competition, but a source of revenue. " - From the article.

Comparison between Zune and iPod
Zune is Microsoft newest attempt to kick iPod out of the top music industry. The product combines most of the features iPod have and has its own new features too.
Zune allow people to exchange files wirelessly with another Zune device, but disappointingly is that users can only listen to the exchanged file for three times before it dies. What's the big idea of it?
Other than that, Zune tried to come out a mp3 which have bigger screen than iPod, which is 3 inch screen while iPod only 2.5 inch. But STILL it uses same resolution as iPod resulting images appear coarser and grainier. So it still long time for Zune to beat iPod.

Tho i own a pink i-pod nano, i still prefer Creative's design more than i-pod. Creative has more various kinds of design that attract youngters and the price is much more affordable compare to i-pod. If my i-pod wasn't for free, i would have get Creative's.
